DARCY REES

Centre

The 6”4” centre who originates from Adelaide, South Australia, joins the Rebels following a successful four- year collegiate career with the Washington Huskies in the US.

In her final year with the Huskies, sharpshooter Rees shot an impressive 56.3% from the field, the second highest on the team. The 23-year-old also had an impressive freshman season with the Huskies after she led the team in shooting at 42.6%, only the eight UW player to achieve this feat in their history.

Before making the move over the Pacific Ocean to the US, Rees has a successful high-school career in Australia. Rees played for the Australia U17 national team, helping them to win the FIBA Oceania Championship in 2017, and went on to represent Australia at U20 national level.

Rees is an astute shooter but will also be hoping to make a significant contribution to the defensive end for Coach Cookson’s team having ended her Huskies career with 81 blocked shots, ninth in the all-time University of Washington list.

Darcy, who has a strong lineage of basketball in the family, being the daughter of two pro basketball players, Paul and Nicole Rees, had this to say about joining the Essex Rebels:

“I am really excited to join the Essex Rebels program this season. Being at Essex will be a great opportunity for me to work hard and excel on the basketball court and within the classroom as I attain my master’s degree. I can’t wait to get on the court with this group and make a statement within the league”.
