Tom Child returns to the Rebels for the 2025/2026 campaign
Essex Rebels are excited to welcome back former captain Tom Child ahead of the 2025/2026 British Basketball Championship season.
After departing from the Rebels roster at the end of the 2021/2022 season following five years with the team, Child spent the past three seasons abroad with the Sligo All-Stars in the Irish Superleague.
Child’s first season in Ireland saw him averaging over 18 points per game, in addition to contributing over eight assists per game on average.
Last season saw Child helping the All-Stars reach the Irish Super League play-offs, while contributing over six assists per game.
During his first stint with the Rebels, Child was part of the roster that helped the Essex Programme climb from Division Four of the National Basketball League all the way to Division One.
As one of only eighty-two players to record over 200 assists in the history of the National Basketball League, the Rebels will be looking to Child for his playmaking capabilities on the court.
Speaking ahead of his return, Tom said:
“I’m most looking forward to coming back and playing for my home team after 3 years away, competing in a strong new BCB league and trying to win some silverware!”
When asked about the Rebels’ latest arrival, Head Coach Joe Hart said:
“Great to see Tom back in a rebels uniform. He will bring veteran leadership and high level playmaking to the squad.”
