TALENTED GUARD MBAM GOES INTO THIRD YEAR

August 15, 2023

Essex Rebels welcome back talented shooting guard Jade Mbam for the upcoming season.

Mbam joined the Essex Rebels in August 2021 from fellow WBBL side Manchester Mystics where she made 10 appearances in the league.

The 20-year-old from Manchester has had an impressive junior career, including being selected to captain the U16 GB team at the FIBA European Championships, as well as representing GB U18s. Jade also had a short stint in the NCAA Division 2, playing for Angelo State.

The ex-GB junior international continued her progress with the Rebels last season averaging 3.3 points, 1.2 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game. Jade was a sharpshooter once again from the 3-point line, leading the team with an impressive 47.8% efficiency rate.

Jade will continue her education at the University of Essex, going into her final undergraduate year studying a degree in Sociology.

Ashley Cookson, Head of Basketball Performance, had this to say about Jade returning:

“Jade capitalised on the opportunities given to her last season, with her sharp shooting from the perimeter she put up efficient numbers. Jade is the kind of person that makes coaching a lot of fun, a hard worker that puts the team first. Excited to get on court with Jade this season and watch her progress.”

Jade is the fourth women’s player to re-sign for the Rebels, joining Cameron Taylor-Willis, Claire Paxton, and Megan Haines.

Welcome back Jade!
