Hart Steps Down as Rebels Men’s Head Coach
The Essex Rebels announce that Men’s Head Coach Joe Hart has decided to step down from his role with the Rebels Men’s team.
Hart joined the Essex Rebels in 2024, initially as a player with the former NBL Division 1 Men’s team, before making the transition into coaching. Following Ross Norfolk’s departure, Hart took on the role of Head Coach, leading the team into its inaugural British Basketball Championship (BCB) season.
Taking charge of the team during a significant period of transition, Hart guided the Rebels through their first season competing at BCB level. The team narrowly missed out on a place in the play-offs, finishing the season just outside the post-season positions.
Hart successfully made the transition from player to coach and helped establish the foundations for the Rebels Men’s team as they stepped into the BCB.
Hart will now begin the next chapter of his coaching career after accepting a position as Assistant Coach with a Super League Basketball Men’s team.
Reflecting on his time with the club, Hart said:
I really enjoyed working with everyone involved with the program over the last year. I am very grateful for the opportunity to have started my coaching career at Essex. I’m sad to be leaving but excited for what lies next.
Essex Rebels Manager Diana Voynova added:
On behalf of the club, I’d like to thank Joe for all his hard work and contributions over the past two years. It has been great to see his development from player to Head Coach, and he has done an excellent job throughout his time with the Rebels.
We’re incredibly grateful for Joe’s dedication and the work he has put into the club. While we’re sorry to see him move on, we completely respect his decision and wish him every success in the next chapter of his coaching career.
The Essex Rebels can also confirm that Jordan Ashley, with further support to be confirmed, will lead the team in training and games while the club searches for a permanent replacement.
