Rebels Strengthen Roster with Irish International Lucy Coogan
The Essex Rebels are pleased to announce the signing of Irish forward Lucy Coogan for the upcoming Super League Basketball season.
Coogan joins the Rebels after an impressive four years at Caldwell University, where she established herself as a standout player in the Central Athletic Collegiate Conference (CACC), competing in NCAA Division II.
Prior to Caldwell, Coogan developed her game in her hometown of Kilkenny, Ireland where she attended Loreto Secondary School and captained the Kilkenny Stars. In 2019, she captained the Stars to championship in the Southeast Cup Final.
This success led her to gain recognition on an international stage, representing Ireland at U16 and U18 level and playing in the European Championships in Bulgaria.
In 2022, Coogan made her move to New Jersey to play for the Caldwell Cougars. Coogan enjoyed a breakout second season at Caldwell, making a big impression in the CACC. She was named Player of the Week in February 2024 and at the end of the season was named in the All-CACC Third Team.
During that season, Lucy hit a career high of 34 points in the game against Wilmington, overall ranking second in the team and fifth in the CACC for scoring, with an average of 15.8 ppg.
Coogan continued to thrive in her third year, delivering consistent performances throughout the 24/25 season. She scored in double figures in 28 out of 29 games and registered a career-high 16 rebounds against Bloomfield. By the end of the season, Coogan ranked fourth in the CACC for scoring with an average of 16.8 ppg and fifth for rebounding with 7.4.
Most recently, Coogan was named in the All-CACC First Team and was ranked third in the CACC for scoring with an average of 17.7 ppg. Coogan was also named first in the CACC and 14th nationally in free throw percentage with 88.4%.
Now making the move to the British Super League Basketball, Coogan arrives at the Rebels with a proven record of success, adding further quality to the roster ahead of the 2026/27 season.
