Rebels Battle Back to Claim Crucial Win Over Riders

The Essex Rebels collected their second win of the season with a hard-fought 87-82 victory over the Loughborough Riders on Sunday 9 November at the Essex Sports Arena.

It was a night of resilience and determination for the hosts, who had to come from behind after falling 15 points down early in the game. But a gritty defensive effort and a powerful late surge saw the Rebels overturn the deficit, outscoring the Riders 26-19 in the fourth quarter to seal the win in front of a lively home crowd.

Miles Brown led the charge for Essex, putting in a standout performance with 25 points and eight steals, shooting an impressive 50% from the field. Kyron Martin was also key in the comeback, posting 21 points and 10 rebounds, making crucial plays at both ends of the floor as the Rebels found their rhythm late in the game.

For the visitors, Michael Joiner recorded a triple-double of 25 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists.

Reflecting on the result, Head Coach Joe Hart praised his team’s character and togetherness:

“It was a really gutsy performance from the team. Despite being down 15-0 to start the game, which was frustrating, the guys did a really good job staying composed and fighting back. I think all of the guys contributed throughout the game, which was really nice to see.” He continued: “And good to see the guys put on a performance in a must-win game. Onto the next one now in a busy week with BUCS on Wednesday and two big games this weekend.”

The Rebels will now look to build on this momentum as they travel to Birmingham on Saturday 15 November, before returning home to face current league leaders Worthing Thunder on Sunday 16 November at 6:30pm.
