Game Preview: Essex Rebels Women Vs Manchester Basketball
This weekend the Rebels women return to the Essex Sport Arena as they host Manchester Basketball with a 4pm Tip-off.
The Essex Rebels Women are back home this weekend after travelling to Wales last weekend to face Cardiff Met Archers. The Rebels will look to comeback after a narrow 91-87 defeat. Despite walking away with a loss, the game saw a stand-out performance from Lara Rohkohl who is enjoying an outstanding debut campaign with the Rebels.
Against Cardiff, Rohkohl registered 31 points and 14 rebounds, ranking first within the team in both aspects. Now sitting 7th in the league, Freeman’s side will look to turn things around and get back to their winning ways. However, the hosts will not have an easy ride facing a tough opposition in Manchester. Oli Parr’s side will look to continue their perfect winning streak adding to their current total of 3 out of 3 wins.
Most recently, Manchester hosted Leicester Riders and walked away with a 90-62 win. Alongside the Riders, Manchester have also secured comfortable wins against Sheffield Hatters and London Lions.
Player to Watch: Maaja Bratka
Estonian international, Maaja Bratka is one to watch this Saturday. Bratka joined Manchester in 2025 and re-signed for her second season in the summer. The 6’3 centre had an incredible first season with Manchester, registering an average of 15.7ppg, captaining her team and named Manchester’s most valuable player.
Bratka has continued this form this season yet again averaging 15.7 ppg and 6rpg, ranking first in her team for points in both the London Lions game and the Sheffield Hatters game. Keeping Bratka at bay will be key in the Rebels success this weekend.
Ahead of this weekend’s game, Rebels’ Head Coach Tor Freeman said:
“We’ve had a good week in practise so far and are looking forward to a strong challenge against Manchester. The fan support at our last home game was terrific and we can’t wait to play in front of everyone again!”
