Game Preview: Essex Rebels Women Vs Newcastle Eagles

This weekend the Essex Rebels Women are back at the Essex Sport Arena as they host Newcastle Eagles with a 4pm Tip-off.

The Rebels are home for their second consecutive weekend after hosting Manchester Basketball last Saturday. The Rebels will look to comeback after last weekend’s 101-66 defeat to league leaders, Manchester.

Despite a frustrating result, Cameron Taylor-Willis was a positive spark for the Rebels scoring 26 points including four 3-pointers adding to her tally of nine threes in just four games so far, this Super League Basketball season. Taylor-Willis will look to continue this form against Newcastle this weekend.

Sitting three places above the Rebels in the league table, Newcastle Eagles will be a challenging task. Despite winning their first two opening game of the season against Leicester Riders and Nottingham Wildcats, the Eagles, like the Rebels, are entering this weekend following back-to-back losses.

After suffering defeats to Caledonia Gladiators and Braun Sheffield Hatters, Head Coach, Chloe Gaynor, will be determined to get her team back on track, marking a difficult test for the hosts.

Player to Watch: Maddy Hinton

Maddy Hinton is one to watch this Saturday. Hinton joined the Eagles this summer from Australia after playing in Australia’s National Basketball League Division One Central for the past three seasons.

The 5’6 guard has adapted well to the Super League despite never playing in England and has already registered a total of 72 points, 16 assists and 18 rebounds. Hinton had stand-out performances against Nottingham Wildcats and Leister Riders scoring a combined 39 points ranking first in points across both teams in both games.

Ahead of this weekend, Rebels’ Head Coach, Tor Freeman said:

This week should be an exciting matchup. We’ve been putting plenty of work in and are ready to show our best on Saturday.
