Essex Rebels’ Explosive Performance Secures Crucial Win Over Hemel Storm
In a thrilling top-of-the-table basketball showdown, the Essex Rebels (19-4) asserted their dominance over Hemel Storm (18-5) with an impressive 100-78 victory. The Rebels showcased their resilience and determination after a slow start in the first quarter, which saw Hemel Storm outscoring the Rebels.
However, it was the second quarter that proved to be the turning point of the game. The Rebels came alive with an explosive 31-18 run, showcasing their offensive prowess. Leading the charge for the Rebels was Kyron Martin, who contributed 16 points and 6 rebounds. Adding to the offensive firepower was Connor Nelson, who made an impact with 15 points, shooting an impressive 5 out of 9 from beyond the arc.
A standout performance came from Luke Busumbru, who recorded a remarkable triple-double with 14 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists. Busumbru’s all-around excellence on the court was instrumental in guiding the Rebels to a commanding lead.
Despite Hemel Storm’s efforts to stage a comeback early in the third quarter, the Rebels stood firm, rallying together to regain control of the game. With their tenacious defense and cohesive team play, the Rebels were able to weather the Storm and maintain their lead.
As the game progressed into the final quarter, Essex Rebels seized full momentum, showcasing quality outside shooting and relentless determination. Their offensive onslaught was relentless, leaving Hemel Storm struggling to keep pace.
Head Coach Ross Norfolk was pleased with the team’s performance, ‘The guys produced their best performance of the season. They played with heart for the full 40 minutes. Our half-court defence combined with our transition play allowed us to take control of the game’.
The Rebels take on Newcastle away next week in their last game of the regular season. However, Essex have earnt a home draw in the National Basketball League Playoffs and will therefore host the D1 Playoff Quarterfinals on April 13th at 6.30pm. Tickets are available on Eventbrite.
