Rebels get caught in the Storm
Essex Rebels Division 1 men took on Hemel Storm in their regular season match up. Rebels made a couple of signings mid week, Lee Hodges and Jake Eynon both made their season debuts at the Essex Sport Aren.
Excuse the pun, but Hemel Stormed into an early first quarter outing, 32-16, lead by their Americans Taylor Johnson and Greg Poleon.
A change in tactics for the Rebels saw an improved and more efficient second quarter which allowed the score line to stay at arms length. Mayo Adeyeye was huge off the bench for the Rebels.
After half time saw another efficient quarter with the Rebels winning the battle and apply pressure to the storm defence.
The final stanza saw Hemel’s efficient offence peppering Essex’s defence. A lack of poise by Essex in crucial situations allowed Hemel to slow the momentum of the Rebels rally.
A late blast by Essex wasn’t enough and Hemel cruised to victory 103 – 84.
Essex were led by Mayo Adeyeye off the bench with 18 points.
“Shooting 50% from the foul line and missing a couple of easy lay ups really hurt us. We need to keep working on our offensive efficiency if we want to compete against the top teams”, said Coach Norfolk.
Next weekend Essex Rebels host Oaklands Wolves at 7pm in the Essex Sport Arena.
