Essex Rebels are delighted to announce that fan-favourite Rory Winter will be staying at the club for his fifth season.

Rory joined the Rebels from Essex Leopards in September 2019, and played a major role in guiding Essex Rebels to the NBL Division 2 title in his first season with the club, averaging just shy of 16 points per game.

Since being promoted to NBL Division 1, the 6’2 guard has established himself as one of Rebel’s most consistent players over the past three seasons, ending the 2022-2023 NBL season with an average of 8.7 points, 2.6 assists and 4.4 rebounds per game.

Rory also notably joined his brother Ben as the only player to feature in every NBL fixture last season, making him the record appearance holder for the Essex Rebels men’s side since forming in 2018 with 84 total appearances.

The 25-year-old Copleston Academy graduate has risen to become a fan-favourite with Rebels fans, often relied upon for the positive energy he injects to help lift the Essex Sport Arena when the team needs it most. Rory’s experience and leadership qualities are certain to play a major part in how Rebels perform on-court this season.

Looking forward to returning for his 5th season with the Rebels, Rory Winter said:

“It’s great to be back here at Essex. I am excited to start competing again and with the new additions to the squad it puts us in a strong position to do so. Big shoutout to the fans as I look forward to seeing you all at the Essex Sport Arena for another NBL Division 1 season!”

Ross Norfolk, coach of the Essex Rebels NBL Division 1 team, had this to say about Rory:

“We are thrilled to secure the services of Rory for another season. The captain of the team, Rory is a pest defensively making it uncomfortable for the opposition whilst giving us the outside threat from the perimeter. Rory is able to stretch the floor from 3 and provide us with his consistent mid-range game. Rory’s leadership will be called upon again this season. Welcome back Rory!”

Rory joins his younger brother Ben Winter, Tyreese Hudson, and exciting new signing, Luke Busumbru, in committing to the Essex Rebels as the roster begins to take shape for the upcoming season.
