The starting fives took their positions with the Essex Rebels fielding Claire Paxton, Tia Freeman, Katherine Tudor, Megan Haines, and Dayzsha Rogan, while the Caledonia Gladiators countered with Samantha Roscoe, Hannah Robb, Ariadna Pujol, Laken James, and Kirsty Brown.

The game started with the Essex Rebels seizing an early lead in the first quarter, showcasing their offensive strength and defensive tenacity to carve out a five-point advantage over the visiting Gladiators. However, the Caledonia Gladiators quickly regrouped, mounting a spirited comeback to close the gap and ultimately claim a six-point lead heading into halftime.

As the second half unfolded, the Essex Rebels staged a remarkable resurgence, narrowing the deficit to a mere one point as the third quarter drew to a close. With tension mounting and the outcome hanging in the balance, both teams entered the final quarter with everything to play for.

In a display of unwavering determination and skill, the Caledonia Gladiators rose to the occasion, delivering a commanding performance in the crucial moments of the game. With precision shooting and staunch defense, they outscored the Rebels decisively in the final quarter, tallying 17 points to Essex’s eight. As the final buzzer sounded, the Caledonia Gladiators emerged victorious with a hard-earned 66-56 triumph over the Essex Rebels.

Amidst the standout performances on both sides, it was Kirsty Brown of the Caledonia Gladiators who shone the brightest, earning the well-deserved title of Player of the Game. With her exceptional scoring prowess and impactful contributions, Brown played a pivotal role in propelling her team to victory, finishing the game with an impressive 14 points to her name.

Head coach Cookson added: “I’m proud of the effort we put forward this week and continued to find ways to adjust with our roster being depleted. To push the 2nd best team in the league for 4 quarters is an achievement in itself. We’re hungry to keep pushing forwards and build towards the play-offs
