Essex Rebels Sign Reyad West

Essex Rebels are delighted to announce the signing of Reyad West to the team ahead of the 2026/27 British Championship Basketball season.

West developed his game in his hometown of Sheffield, competing at Sheffield College during the years of 2018-2020.  He then made the move to Manchester Magic whilst he completed his degree at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Most recently, West returned to play for the Sheffield Sharks in Super League Basketball. He signed with the Sharks at the beginning of the 2024/25 season after spending a year at Shih University, where he competed in Taiwan’s University Basketball Association.

At the end of his debut season for the Sharks, he was awarded Player’s Player of the Year, highlighting the impact his off-court mentality and value had on his teammates.

Alongside his club career, West is officially registered as a FIBA 3×3 basketball player for Algeria, representing his dual nationality. West made his international debut for Algeria U23’s 3×3 in July 2024, playing in the FIBA 3×3 Nations League Africa North which was hosted in Mombasa Kenya.

West shared his thoughts on joining the Rebels:

I’m excited to be joining the Rebels this season. The last two seasons in the SLB have helped me grow a lot as a player, and I’m ready to take that experience into a new setting and get after it with the guys. Up the rebs!!!

Essex Rebels Manager Diana Voynova is also looking forward to seeing what West can bring to the team, stating:

We’re really happy that Reyad signed with the Rebels this season. He’s gained some valuable experience with Sheffield in a higher league (SLB) the last couple of seasons so we’re looking forward to having him on board.
