Rebels Women Exit Playoffs as Newcastle Eagles Claim Quarter-Final Victory
Essex Rebels Women’s team saw their 2024-25 campaign come to an end with a hard-fought 90-82 defeat to Newcastle Eagles in the playoff quarter-finals. Despite a valiant effort and impressive shooting performance, the Rebels couldn’t overcome Eagles on the road.
Lauren Park-Lane contributed 10 points, 4 assists, and 3 steals for the Rebels. Maria Blazejewski added 12 points and 8 rebounds on efficient 5-9 shooting, while Daniella Turner led the team with 14 points on a near-perfect 6-7 from the field.
The Rebels shot well as a team, connecting on 47.8% of their field goal attempts and an impressive 48.1% from beyond the arc (13-27), but were outrebounded 42-40 and committed 21 turnovers which proved costly in the elimination game.
For Newcastle, Jada Guinn delivered a standout performance with 24 points, 6 rebounds, and 8 assists, while Kendall Currence added 22 points and 7 assists. Shannon Hatch contributed 16 points and 4 assists in a balanced attack for the Eagles, who advance to the playoff semi-finals.
The defeat ends the season for the Rebels, who made a strong push in the final weeks to secure a playoff spot by winning five of their last seven regular season games. The team will now focus on preparations for the 2025-26 campaign.
