Match Preview: Essex Rebels vs Caledonia Gladiators | SLB Cup | Saturday 10th January
After last weekend’s victory over the Nottingham Wildcats, the Essex Rebels will take a break from league action this weekend, as they take on the Caledonia Gladiators in the Super League Basketball Cup Quarter Finals.
The last time the two sides met was last month, as the Caledonia Gladiators progressed in the Betty Codona trophy with a narrow 93-95 victory at the Essex Sport Arena.
Since then, both sides have built up a three-game win streak, being perfect in league action and finding each other level on points at the top of the Super League Basketball league table.
A win for the Rebels would be a statement of intent in their pursuit of silverware this season, after last month’s defeat to this weekend’s visitors.
Player To Watch: Tierra Hodges
The architect of the Gladiators’ victory over the Rebels last month, Tierra Hodges is a versatile Forward-Guard that the home side will have to contain this weekend if they want to progress in the cup.
Ranking first in the SLB this season for points per game with 21.9, the Gladiators’ #15 has enjoyed a fine run of form in the last three league games since the Rebels’ cup exit.
With 18 points, nine rebounds and five steals on the day, Hodges has proven to be one to watch whenever the Gladiators take to the court – especially after following that up with stellar performances against Leicester, Newcastle and Nottingham in league play.
With a place in the Cup Semi Finals on the line, fans can expect a competitive battle from start to finish. Don’t miss out and get your tickets now!
This weekend’s game will take place in the Essex Sport Centre opposite the Arena – we apologise for any inconvenience caused.
